The difference between plate fin radiator and tube belt radiator

2024-08-14

The main differences between ‌ plate-fin radiators and ‌ belt radiators lie in their construction, areas of application, and their respective advantages and disadvantages.

Structure and Design: ‌

The belt radiator is composed of a belt and a backplane. The distance between the belt and the backplane can be designed as needed to accommodate the required heat dissipation volume and provide adequate circulation space. The shape of the pipe belt can be round, hexagon, triangle, etc. It is connected with the backplane to transfer the heat to the backplane, and then dissipate the heat to the outer surface of the radiator.

The plate-fin radiator is composed of a set of metal plates and a set of heat dissipation fins. The shape of the plate fins can be linear, U-shaped, V-shaped, W-shaped, etc. They are welded or bonded together to form a whole. In the process of use, the radiator is placed on the radiator base, the plate fin radiator is placed above the element that needs to be cooled, and the whole radiator is fixed.

Heat dissipation effect

The heat dissipation effect of pipe - belt radiator is superior to that of plate - fin radiator. This is because the tubular radiator is able to use its special structural design to reduce water flow resistance and heat dissipation circulation resistance, thus improving heat exchange efficiency and heat dissipation speed. In addition, the pipe belt radiator can be directly connected with the system water pipe to achieve heat dissipation cycle, which can play a greater heat dissipation effect at a smaller size.

Although the heat dissipation effect of the plate fin radiator is slightly inferior to that of the pipe belt radiator, its side effects are also small. The plate-fin radiator usually needs a large heat dissipation area and good air duct design to play the best heat dissipation effect, but it has an obvious advantage, that is, the overall stability of the radiator, not easy to cause a failure to reduce the heat dissipation effect.

Field of Application:

Plate-fin radiators have been widely used in ‌ petroleum, ‌ chemical, ‌ natural gas processing and other industries, as well as in ‌ air separation devices, ‌ power machinery, ‌ atomic energy, and ‌ defense industries. ‌

Tube belt radiator in the liquid and gas heat exchange system on the effect is obviously better than the tube heat exchanger, usually used as a cooler, cooling water or frozen water in the tube; When used as a heater, steam, hot water and heat conduction oil are used in the pipe. It is the most widely used heat exchange equipment in gas-liquid heat exchange.

Advantages and disadvantages:

The advantages of plate-fin radiator include flexibility and adaptability, which can adapt to the difference of heat transfer between the two sides of the medium and improve the utilization rate of heat transfer surface. However, its disadvantages include narrow flow channel, easy to cause blockage and increase pressure drop; Cleaning is difficult, requiring clean media; The diaphragm and fin of the aluminum plate fin heat exchanger are thin, and the medium is required not to corrode the aluminum.

The advantage of the pipe belt radiator lies in its high efficiency of heat exchange performance, by adding fins on the external surface of the air side to greatly expand the heat transfer area, make up for the shortcomings of low heat transfer coefficient of the air side, so that the heat transfer is greatly improved. However, drawbacks may include the complexity of design and manufacturing, as well as the adaptive requirements for specific operating conditions.

To sum up, there are obvious differences between plate-fin radiators and tube-belt radiators in terms of structure, application areas and advantages and disadvantages, and the choice of which radiator depends on the specific application requirements and environmental conditions.
